Meet Pastor Jeremy
Greetings. My name is Jeremy Gwaltney and I have been the lead pastor or Harvest Community Church since the Fall of 2015. I’d love to tell you just a little bit about myself.
I’m a Family Man
I was blessed to have been born into a great family with a long history and heritage of what family is supposed to mean. After Jesus, the love of my life is my wife Tiffanee. We met in college and got married a few years later in August of 2003. We have five amazing children, three daughters and two sons, who keep us on our toes, challenge us and, overall, make our life exciting. Being a husband and father is the most challenging and rewarding calling God has graced me with.
It is my love for family that causes me to see that God’s people, the church, was designed to be a spiritual family. A place where we may not always see eye to eye, we will have difficult times, but we will fight to understand, forgive, and love each other because that is what our Heavenly Father did for us.
I Love Jesus
Jesus is the ultimate and central joy of my life. He makes all the difference in the world. To know and follow Him is to experience life in abundance. That is why it is my goal in life to bring the love of Jesus to as many people as possible.
I Believe the Best for Others
I truly believe that inside of each person is the dormant ability to change the world. That is what Jesus does inside of each of us. He defeats all our weaknesses, the chief of which is sin, and then gifts us to make a difference in our worlds. As a pastor, I see it as my primary responsibility to identify and develop this world-changing quality in each and every person that is willing to call Harvest home.
I Have a Vision to Change the World
Once Jesus interrupts our lives and floods us with his life-changing love, He tells us to “go… to all nations.” Jesus is overwhelmed by the pain, hurt, injustice, and grief in our world and He desires to see each and every person come to know Him. I believe it is well within the realm of possibility for one community of faith, a church like Harvest, to reach people and build lives in a way that changes the entire planet. That is why I believe that the local church is the hope of the world, because it carries the hope of Jesus Christ to the world.
All Those Other Things
Prior to moving to Goshen, I spent 10 years at Grace Church of Chapel Hill as a staff pastor who served as the GraceKids Director, Guest Services Director, and young adults pastor. I received an undergraduate degree in Communication from N.C. State University and a Master’s of Divinity in Advanced Biblical Studies from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. My concentration at Southeastern was in Old Testament Studies, specifically in the study of Hebrew. I was ordained in 2009, and have been in full-time pastoral ministry since then.
In addition to spending time with family, my hobbies are fishing, historical reading, and watching sports — especially the NC State Wolfpack.
